Far Sightedness-Hyperopia
Farsightedness is the result of the visual image being focused behind the retina rather than directly on it. It may be caused by the eyeball being too small or the focusing power being too weak.
Farsightedness is often present from birth, but children can compensate with their stronger eye muscles. Most children outgrow the condition. As aging occurs, glasses or contact lenses may be required to correct the vision. If you have family members who are farsighted, you are also more likely to become farsighted. If you find yourself able to read road signs but unable to see the newspaper clearly, it is time for a visit to the doctors at Global Laser Vision.
Farsightedness, or Hyperopia, can be corrected for most individuals with laser eye surgery. The staff at GLV will do a thorough eye examination to determine whether there are any underlying health issues that would prevent a successful surgery. After the examination and testing, you will have a consultation with one of our ophthalmologists to discuss the benefits and risks of surgery.
The doctors at Global Laser Vision have performed over 30,000 LASIK procedures. This level of expertise is important for your peace of mind. Each of the surgeons is a certified specialist in corneal and refractive surgery, with additional formal subspecialty training from world-renowned universities. We want you to feel comfortable trusting your vision needs to our professionals; we even post their resumes and biographies online so you can see for yourself that they are highly qualified to perform your vision correction procedure.
If you are ready to throw away your glasses (or if you don't want to have to get them in the first place), call us at 1-800-438-5274. Our friendly staff will be glad to discuss your options and set up a time for a consultation with one of the surgeons. Only the most cutting-edge technology is used at GLV--give us a call and let us tell you about it.
The surgeons of
Global Laser Vision in San Diego and Orange County, California now offer the FDA-approved CustomVue individualized laser vision correction (LVC) procedure for farsighted individuals with or without astigmatism. Also known as hyperopia, farsightedness affects an estimated 45 million people in the U.S.
The
CustomVue procedure is the first FDA-approved, wavefront-guided laser treatment for
hyperopia. With this approval, many individuals who were not previously candidates for
custom laser vision correction now have a potentially better vision correction alternative than
glasses or contact lenses. In an FDA clinical study, more than four times as many
participants were very satisfied with their night vision after the CustomVue Hyperopia
procedure, compared to their night vision with glasses or contact lenses.
The CustomVue Hyperopia procedure tailors a distinct correction, based on the unique
characteristics of the individual's eye. The procedure is based on custom wavefront
technology, which measures visual imperfections with 25-times more precision than
standard methods for glasses and contact lenses.
VISX, Incorporated utilizes this
technology to provide individualized laser vision correction. CustomVue™ has been used to
treat nearsighted and astigmatic individuals in the U.S. since 2003. Now it can be used in
the U.S. to treat farsighted individuals as well.
"This is very exciting news," continued the surgeons of Global Laser Vision "Many of our
farsighted patients have been waiting for years for the opportunity to become candidates for custom laser vision correction. This new hyperopic approval allows us to offer them customized treatment, tailored to their individual needs."
