Day Of Lasik Surgery
The doctors at the Global Laser Vision are committed to providing you with the highest quality of patient care. Both your pre-operative and follow-up care is integral parts of the Laser Eye Surgical experience.
LASIK is an outpatient procedure that takes 10-15 minutes per eye. At the laser center, the patient is given a mild sedative. Numbing drops as well as antibiotic and anti-inflammatory drops are placed in the eye.
A speculum is placed to separate the upper and lower eyelids of the appropriate eye and prevent the patient from closing his or her eye. Numbing drops are placed for patient comfort.
The flap is created with the use of an automated flap maker called a microkeratome. The flap is gently folded back and you will be asked to look at a focusing light. The laser procedure is begun which is typically less than one minute. The doctor guides you throughout the procedure while monitoring your fixation at every moment for accuracy.
The flap is repositioned and is allowed to seal naturally without the need for stitches. Antibiotic and anti-inflammatory drops are placed to help protect against infection and inflammation. Protective eye shields are placed on the eyes, and the patient is ready to leave the laser center.
Once finished, you will get up, receive instructions from the staff, and rest for a few minutes. You may experience some temporary discomfort after treatment; your doctor can prescribe pain medication if needed. Afterward, you'll go home to rest and relax for several hours.
After the Procedure
Vision usually improves immediately after treatment for most patients, although it's normal that some patients may experience small visual changes during the first several months. Two or three days of rest is recommended before returning to work.
