At Global Laser Vision in San Diego, we are committed to educating patients in order to empower them to make informed choices for their vision care. Millions of patients across the U.S. have chosen LASIK laser vision correction surgery to improve their vision. Our LASIK specialists will give you all the information you need about LASIK surgery and recovery.
LASIK technology has advanced considerably and at Global Laser Vision we are proud to offer Custom Wavefront Optimized LASIK. This blade-free LASIK is fully customized with computer-guided lasers to offer the high level of accuracy and precision you expect from modern vision correction. The WaveLight® FS200 Femtosecond Laser is used to create the flap that your LASIK surgeon will use to access the cornea. The WaveLight® EX500 Excimer Laser is then used to reshape your cornea in order to correct your refractive errors with precise specifications and your unique measurements.
At your LASIK consultation appointment at Global Laser Vision in San Diego, our experienced LASIK surgeon will conduct a thorough eye exam to determine if you are a candidate for LASIK. If LASIK is right for you, your eyes will be photographed and our computerized technology will create a unique map called a corneal topography. This will assess the precise shape of your cornea in order to create your customized LASIK treatment. In the time leading up to your LASIK appointment, It is important to follow any pre-surgical instructions outlined by your LASIK surgeon. Some general pre-surgical guidelines for LASIK include:
Your LASIK team will administer anesthetic eye drops to numb your eyes prior to surgery. You will sit in a comfortable reclining chair and your surgeon will position your head and use a device to gently hold your eyelids open. The actual LASIK procedure usually takes just a few minutes per eye and patients typically find the procedure to be painless. You will rest in our clinic after the procedure and be given post-operative instructions before leaving to recover at home.
Many patients experience improved vision immediately after LASIK surgery, although it is also normal to experience some haziness in vision during the initial day or two of recovery. You should plan to rest the entire day after your LASIK surgery and it is especially important to nap or rest with your eyes closed for the first four hours after surgery. It is normal to feel some temporary mild discomfort or irritation which can be managed with over the counter pain medication. You will be prescribed antibiotic and anti-inflammatory eye drops which you should use as directed to prevent infection and encourage proper healing. Many patients return to normal activities the day after LASIK, although it can be beneficial to take 2 to 3 days off of work. Plan to attend all scheduled follow-up appointments, follow all post-operative instructions, and contact us with any questions.
